I long for community. It probably started for me as a kid. By the age of nine, I had
endured my mother’s four marriages and lived with aunts and uncles, mainly my
grandmother, often separated from my siblings. I didn’t feel like I belonged
anywhere, but I somehow knew I belonged somewhere.

My family dynamics made me prone to gravitate toward groups where I hoped I
would find camaraderie and companionship to fill the gaping hole within.
However, as I leaned into many communities and cultures, I often experienced
bewilderment as I observed how these groups functioned. I repeatedly scratched
my head, asking myself, “What am I doing here?”

Before I understood the world’s principles, I exited several of these
environments, thinking there was nothing for me here. Only to realize that
learning, growing, and expanding requires positive and negative experiences.
Looking back on these events, I understand that I had outgrown some
communities while growing out of others.

I spent seven years in the military and later became an ordained Minister,
pastoring churches and traveling the world. I eventually got an insurance license
and built a multi-million-dollar insurance office in Los Angeles.

After I married, raised a family, and became successful in business, I learned that
many people are looking for a place to belong where they can flourish. People
want connection and to feel appreciated. They want a fertile learning
environment where they can receive instruction and mentorship without being
shamed or manipulated.

The Design To Shine Community is a place to remain secure as you grow. Where
your hopes are shared, and people will nurture your dreams and aspirations. It’s a
community where you will be celebrated, not just tolerated. My life experiences
have brought me to a place where contributing to the well-being of others is my
mission.
